Privacy Policy
Skies is a weather app made by Andrew Gartner. It is designed to collect as little as possible. Skies has no accounts, no ads, no analytics, and no tracking of any kind.
Location
If you allow it, Skies uses your device’s location only to show weather for where you are, including in widgets, Live Activities, and alerts. If you choose “Always”, Skies may check your location in the background so that widgets and alerts stay current as you move. You can decline location access and still use Skies by searching for any city.
To get weather, your coordinates (rounded to roughly 1 km accuracy) are sent to these services:
- Apple WeatherKit — forecasts, current conditions, and alerts. Governed by Apple’s Privacy Policy. Apple does not use this to identify you.
- Open-Meteo (open-meteo.com) — air quality, pollen, and historical climate data. See the Open-Meteo terms & privacy.
- RainViewer (rainviewer.com) — radar map tiles for the area you are viewing. See the RainViewer privacy policy.
These requests do not include your name, email, contacts, or any identifier created by Skies. Skies does not store your location on any server; the developer never receives it.
Calendar
If you grant calendar access, Skies reads upcoming events on your device to show the forecast at each event’s time and place. Event titles and details never leave your device; only an event’s location coordinates are used to request weather, as above.
Notifications
Rain, severe-weather, air-quality, and morning-summary notifications are generated on your device. Skies does not use a push-notification server.
Data stored on your device
Your saved cities, settings, and your last known location (for widgets) are stored locally on your device in the app’s private storage. Deleting Skies removes them.
Children
Skies does not knowingly collect personal information from anyone, including children.
Changes
If this policy changes, the updated version will be posted on this page with a new effective date.
